Introduction to Audrey’s Astrology and Tarot Column

“In order to please others, we loose our hold on life’s purpose”
Epictetus

I’m currently following a spiritual link in which two thorny subjects are being discussed, at great length; and which won‘t be let go.
Every so often, some of us will drop out, mostly because we seem to have gone full circle into counter productivity but that doesn’t last long, for most of us, as we keep on getting drawn back in.
The main topic is, can we still be spiritual, without ascribing to a religion; followed by is forgiveness possible when we have been hurt to our very core?

What keeps coming in is: “It all depends,” because unless we have experienced a particular “something,” it has never happened. And, of course, some will disagree with that.
The Philosopher, Wittgenstein, said: “ A mathematical point is just a place to start an argument.”
For the purposes of an introduction, I’m going to begin with the Soul: the essence of All Things because, in my way of thinking, unless we engage in anything without It’s consideration, the Game ain’t worth the Candle.
Which brings me to Astrology & Tarot.

When you go hunting the “facts,” history would give us dates that are accessible to most folk’s way of thinking. Astrology has been dated back to ancient Mesopotamia, reputedly the cradle of civilisation; “the land between the rivers of Euphrates and Tigris,” in modern times, Iraq and parts of Syria, Turkey and Iran. Something to think about.

Astrology made its way to ancient Greece, at the time of its golden age of philosophy, around 600BC and beginning a process of ebb and flow up to its renaissance in  the early part of the 20th Century.
The wide use of playing cards, seems to date from the late 14th century, via Egypt; and their transformation into a system of divination emerging out of Italy at around the same time.

For a long time their illustrations were based upon the four suits of “pip“ cards, with the Fool as a single character used as a trump. Then, in 1909, under the instigation of Arthur Waite, they were given a more human face. For several weeks, a young artist, Pamela Colman-Smith, researched the history of the Tarot in the British Museum and, for the paltry sum of £50, produced what is arguably the most popular deck in the world.
I could go on, but this is my introduction!

Actually, from past-life memories that haunted me from early childhood, it is my belief that both Astrology and Tarot began long before what the encyclopaedias would have. I remember living in Atlantis, where divination was a way of life.

My personal philosophy is that every Soul has an intention and a direction -which brings me to Epictetus- whose understanding was that, as all external events are determined by fate (and thus beyond our control/discuss) we have a duty to care for all fellow human beings living in the universal city that is The Universe.
Tell that to our Glorious Leaders!

It is my understanding that Life is both a privilege and a learning curve; and that, whatever the  apparent state of a very confused World every one of its billions of human beings really did come fore a Purpose.
In Astrology, the slower moving planets describe the historical context revealing the state of a society, pointing to the deepest changes that are needed- both in our Selves and the World- and the faster moving planets giving us the necessary energy.
In moving through the 12 astrological signs, those things that are necessary for us to experience, so that they “really happen,” are explored; each coming with its own signature tune.

In later articles, I hope to explore what this means but, for now, here‘s a fact that has me, still, awed at its significance.
The study of our DNA has moved on apace, so much so that its complexity has been expressed in terms that a layman can understand, despite its immensity. Consider this in the context of astrology, reincarnation, and the possibilities that are inherent in the Soul.
If our individual DNA could be spread into one straight line it would measure 700 return journeys to the Sun, 93 million miles from Earth.
Time to Raise the Game.
