In the springtime of a new year thoughts inevitably turn to the year ahead. Sometimes we look at ourselves with a critical eye and vow to do better and try harder, especially in our relationships with our family and friends. This self-critique may become a little heightened as the 14th of Feb. approaches, yes the big V day. You may be thinking “Oh here we go, another ramble about how we need to heal ourselves, heal our lives, attract love...” You may also have heard before that when you are having problems, oh sorry “issues” with someone, or relationships in general, that it is “a reflection of yourself and something about YOU that you need to look at”. Perhaps it has been suggested that the person affecting you is really to be embraced as they help you onwards on your journey? Well, quite frankly, sod that.
What I would like to suggest is that instead of focusing on the fact that the 14th of Feb. has a strong cupid link, how about focusing instead on the fact that the 14th is also Global Sound Healing day... Bear with me... Using sound to heal, to bring body, mins and spirit back into alignment can be very effective. The use of sound is found in some of the ancient mystery schools, in shamanic ritual, aboriginal ceremony, Tibetan monasteries, Gregorian choirs, Kabbalistic chanting, Christian hymns and even modern day football stadiums... As a modern society we have forgotten how important it is to use our voices. Getting together in groups to sing or chant doesn’t really happen as a matter of course, unless you are a sports fan when thousands of folk get together to gie it laldy. Thing is, it works, it has an effect and if you have ever been to a football match or to a music concert when everyone is singing in unison you will have felt that energetic shift too. When it comes to actually making a “sound” ourselves we have a habit of being somewhat reticent and the majority of us would run for the hills if asked to take part in some group chanting with horrific images of purple kaftans and dodgy incense flashing through our minds. I too used to think that but can now attest effectiveness of the power of sound. The folks who have set up Global Sound Healing Day recommend that everyone sounds an “ahhh” vowel sound at 12noon their local time, be it in the shower, in your living room or even your hall cupboard, but perhaps not the bus. I have personally used the “ahhh” chant to quite useful effect as it also has a strong tradition magically for manifestation. I have to admit to getting a bit carried away with the sound manifestation thing a few years back in my single days when I found a chant that you could use to attract a “spiritual man”. I diligently chanted away for a few days and then managed to get entangled with a string of completely hapless and completely inappropriate men ranging from one who studied iridology and thought I had the most amazing eyes but would I think about having a colonic, to one at the other end of the “spiritual spectrum” who had changed his surname to King as he felt he was the embodiment of the Elf King and I was the Queen (Lord of the Rings was not long out). Ahem. So perhaps just stick with the “Ahhhh”. But do give it a go, just be careful what you chant for... |
